2016 Leading Light Award Overview

About the Leading Light Awards

The Leading Light Awards, on October 6, 2016 from 5:30 pm to 10 pm at the Indiana Roof Ballroom, recognized women of achievement in STEM (science, technology, engineering, or math) who have set an example to others by demonstrating expertise, professionalism, leadership, service, courage and tenacity in pursuing their chosen career. 

Emcee

Dr. Sue Ellspermann emceed the 2016 Leading Light Awards.  Dr. Ellspermann is President of Ivy Tech Community College and most recently served as the 50th Lieutenant Governor of Indiana.  Dr. Ellspermann has more than 30 years of experience in higher education, economic and workforce development and public service.

Awards 

There were seven different Leading Light Awards presented in 2016. The awards recognized women of achievement in STEM – those who have excelled in their fields and who exemplify the broad impact of women in STEM. Scholarships

Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, we offered two $5,000 scholarships, one for an undergraduate student and one for a graduate student.  Additional scholarships were also awarded by our sponsors.  The scholarships were open to women pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in science, technology, engineering or math.  To see the full list of scholarship nominees, go to the 2016 nominee page.
